Version 1.4 Patch Updates

These small “patch” updates mostly include fixes for changes and bugs that Glyphs and RoboFont made in their recent betas. I try to respond to these quickly.

Version 1.4.6

September 17, 2024

• 🍏  macOS 15 Sequoia support. Fixes critical issues when running Sequoia. If you encounter any other issues, major or minor, please let me know!
• 🐛  Fixed: In the Font Picker, clicking a font’s checkbox didn’t always enable/disable it.

Version 1.4.5

August 23, 2024

• Preparations for upcoming versions. One of the platforms that Font Proofer relies on will shut down at the end of 2024. By the end of 2024 a new version of Font Proofer will replace this critical piece of infrastructure. Today’s small v1.4.5 update includes warnings about the need to update, which will only show up in the final weeks of 2024.

• 🐛 Fixed: The new Glyphs beta v3.3 (3306) introduced another bug in its API by neglecting to test it. It causes proof PDF export to fail when proofing a Glyphs project. I implemented a workaround.

Version 1.4.2

April 30, 2024

• 🐛 Fixed: Buttons that open Account Settings (in the Start Window and Help menu) stopped working in macOS Sonoma.
• 🐛 Fixed: When proofing an instance from a Glyphs project, if the instance had the fileName custom parameter it could be accidentally modified when exporting a proof PDF.
• 🐛 Fixed: Other rare and minor bugs.

• Added support for Python 3.12, used by the RoboFont 4.5b beta.
• 🐛 Fixed: In rare cases the last row of text in a Style Comparison layout could overlap another row from the next page.

• 📄 Use a text document as the content for a proof section. This new option links your proof to a text file, allowing you to define your favorite proofing text in a central place.

  

• 🔠 All Glyphs is a new content option when using the Glyph Grid layout. Previously, showing all glyphs was possible by leaving the text input blank, but this new option is more intuitive. Any Glyph Grid sections with empty/blank content will automatically appear as All Glyphs.

  

• 📅 Choose which parts of the date and time to include in the proof header. For example, some designers prefer to hide the time and day of the week if their proof is for a client.
